Differences

My friend posted this lines, i guess this is part of Paulo Coehlo's writings. this is so true.

I was talking to a catholic priest and a young Muslim man over lunch. When the waiter came by with a tray, we all helped ourselves, except the Muslim, who was keeping the annual fast prescribed by the Koran.

When lunch was over, and people were leaving, one of the other guests couldn't resist saying: "You see how fanatical these Muslims are! I'm glad to see you Christians aren't like the."

"But we are," said the priest. "He is trying to serve God just as i am. We merely follow different laws." And he concluded: "It's a shame that people only see the differences that separate them. If you were to look with more love, you would mainly see what we have in common, then half the world's problems would be solved."

i remember mySweetie, during his days with the Muslims during their month of fasting. Muslims would actually not eat the entire day but are allowed to partake food at certain time of the day, or night. And so, other Catholics turned Muslims follow that rule to the dot. And so Catholics, like mySweetie & his co-workers, would still eat at the usual time as they used to only they do it discreetly so as not to offend the Muslims. and the (true) Muslims wouldn't mind at all. But the other Muslims (the converts) would despise & mock the Catholics for "not respecting" their religion.

Huh?!

Oh well, I think mySweetie went on telling these "converts" that they should respect our faith too as we respect theirs. I believe mysweetie was eating in his room or at a small corner so as not to disturb or distract the people praticing the Muslim ways. And I think there's nothing wrong with us, Catholics, eating today (it's the Muslims fasting this month)if we are hungry. And the last time I checked, there's nothing in the bible that says don't eat when others don't eat. ;p

Well, i just do hope people will show true respect for each others differences whether with regards to faith, race, age, or whatever. The world will be such a wonderful place to live if that happens.

Peace everyone!
